On November 8th of 2016, Amendment 2, which authorizes the use of marijuana in the state of Florida, received overwhelming support the voting public. With over 71% voting in favor, Florida has now joined the ranks of other states who permit usage of marijuana for medicinal purposes.
What does the Law state?
The Florida Medical Legalization Initiative, also known as Amendment 2, supports the legalization of marijuana for those who have debilitating conditions or diseases as determined by a licensed state physical. The purpose of this amendment was to make it mandatory for the Department of Health to monitor and distribute marijauna production to the appropriate centers and to qualifying persons. How to become a patient?
To become a medical marijuana patient in Jacksonville, Florida, the following qualifications are necessary:
Patient must be 18 years of age.
Patient must be a Florida resident with a valid state identification card. If patient does not have one, a state ID not issued in Florida, a passport ,or other form of identification with proof of residency, such as a utility bull of bak statement is also accepted.
Patients must also provide legal documentation or medical records from their physician which notates their diagnosis. These documents must be brought with the patient when attending their medical evaluation appointment. Most importantly, the patient must have been diagnosed with a debilitating condition which qualifies them for marijuana usage. In addition, proof that the patient has sought and tried other treatments previous to marijuana usage are necessary.
How does a marijuana card card work?
Once approved, you must seek a physician which is qualified to prescribe medical marijuana. Florida maintains a list of physicians who have undergone the special training needed to prescribe.
